Greywacke (pronounced Greywacky) is the Marlborough label of the Judd family and the name of New Zealand’s most abundant bedrock. These understated grey river stones are found throughout Marlborough’s rivers and alluvial vineyard soils. Established in 2009, Greywacke is truly a family affair. The fruit is sourced from mature vineyards in prime viticultural sites to optimise the potential afforded by Marlborough’s sunny South Pacific climate. The Greywacke range is primarily based on two varieties, sauvignon blanc and pinot noir. Kevin’s signature vineyard photographs provide the distinctive identity of the Greywacke labels
Our energetic and innovative viticultural and winemaking team takes the approach of blending several different fruit parcels to achieve layers of complexity in the wines, focusing on their texture and mouth-feel. Our state-of-the-art but small-scale winemaking facilities give them the tools to achieve this. Whilst Nautilus wines can easily be enjoyed on their own, we believe they are even better when paired with delicious food and the philosophy of creating food-friendly wines is paramount for winemaker Clive Jones.
We do one thing and we do it well. With no compromises or distractions, we pour all our winemaking knowledge and love into crafting a single Sauvignon Blanc that is consistently good, year on year. Grown and made exclusively in Marlborough, New Zealand, it’s been our pride and joy since 1992.
